Medal Help

G'day all,

I recently came across my great grandfather's war medals, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. I was wondering if it is a good idea to clean them and if so, how to do it?

I only have the ribbon for the Victory Medal (the rainbow one, it was previously on the BWM and I just realised the mistake!) and it is not attached and I don't know the proper way to reattach it. I believe it should come to a neatly folded point inside the ring?

And although this isn't the right place for it, I also have my grandfather's miniture WW2 medals - The 1939 - 1945 Star, The Pacific Star, The Australian Service Medal 1939-1945 and the 1939/1945 War Medal. Would these be cleaned in the same way?

Thankyou! :D

Hello

If you let us know his details someone may be able to help you further

Cleaning is always a good topic - best left to personal choice! (I dont unless its to get nasty green bits off victory medals)

Perhaps an Australian pal can send you bit of ribbon?

Ian

As Ian said, cleaning is down to personal choice. Always gently though, never use anything abrasive to remove stubborn marks.

And NEVER EVER be tempted to polish them.

Mark.

Thanks for your help. :)

What substance would you use to clean the medals with?

And yes, I am currently on eBay bidding for a ribbon.

Thanks again! B)
