Lamond10 Posted 8 July , 2022 Share Posted 8 July , 2022 Hello everyone, I've been researching this soldier for a while and would dearly like to find a photograph of him if there are any Royal Scots or South Staffordshire experts out there. Any portrait or group photos in which he appears would be wonderful. His name is James Lamond. He was born 1881. He enlisted in the Royal Scots (regimental number 6791) and served in the Boer War (QSA/KSA) rising to Company Sergeant Major/Company Quarter Master Sergeant by 1914 when he arrived in France with the 2nd Royal Scots in August 1914. Mentioned in despatches in 1914, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and served with the 1/5th South Staffs during the whole 1915-1918, initially as Adjutant and from 1917-September 1918 as Commanding Officer, being awarded the DSO and MC. I think he may have continued serving post-war in the Royal Scots (which may also offer opportunity for photos in the regimental collection, in addition to his senior non-commissioned rank pre war?). If any forum members could assist I'd be immensely grateful, as so far a photograph has eluded me! Kind regards, Andy

Lamond10 Posted 8 July , 2022 Author Share Posted 8 July , 2022 Gosh that was quick! Superb - thanks so much - really very grateful. Great to see his qsa and ksa ribbons! I wondered if any of the regimental collections might have a photo or group photo of him wearing his dso and mc as he seems to have got promoted quite quickly into the senior ranks in the battalion?
