Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 3 July , 2022 Posted 3 July , 2022 Dear All, Perhaps some GWF members have the medals of the Great War officers shown? Another possibilty is that either a) a member seeks an Image, or b) more information about Inkson, Wykes, and/or Johnson is known. The time was Nov 1931, the place was at Babina Camp, UP: 2nd Battalion, Great Indian Peninsular Railways Battalion, AFI, officers. Capt Wykes, MC and Bar, Royal Berkshire Regiment, was the Adjutant of 2 GIP Ry Regt. Kindest regards, Kim.
Helen Inkson Posted 20 July Posted 20 July Hi @Kimberley John Lindsay, i can provide a photo of the medals for Col NL Inkson. are you still seeking a photo? Helen
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 20 July Author Posted 20 July (edited) Dear Helen, Many thanks for responding: much appreciated! Yes, indeed, I would dearly like any scans relating to the gallant and capable Colonel N. L. Inkson, DSO, VD, to put with my AFI research. They will not be forgotten! He was closely associated with "my" Lt-Col R. S. Moberly, OBE, VD, who took over the 2nd Great Indian Peninsular Railway Battalion, when the former retired. Note the "incorrect" correction on Moberly's India Volunteer Officers' Decoration reverse! Kindest regards, Kim. Edited 20 July by Kimberley John Lindsay

Helen Inkson Posted 20 July Posted 20 July Hi Kimberley, It’s great to hear back from you so quickly! Sorry for keeping you waiting for two years! Thank you for the wonderful description of my grandfather. I wish I had been able to meet him. I will send some photos tomorrow. Thanks for sharing the great photos of your relative. I would love to know more. Are we able to chat outside this forum? Kind regards, Helen
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 20 July Author Posted 20 July Dear Helen, I had to laugh at 'waiting for two years'. Never mind, there is rarely a "quick solution" with Medal Collecting. Ronald Stuart Moberly was not a relation. However, I hold his medals and have researched his Life, comparatively brief as it was. The same held true for my Grandfather (AIF Capt and CMF Lt-Col W. F. Lindsay, MC, ED: 1880-1940 - whose Image and medals I also attach for your general interest. thelindsayhouse@web.de How tantalizing to wait for the Images you mentioned. Super! Kindest regards, Kim.
Helen Inkson Posted 21 July Posted 21 July Hi Kim, It is great to find out more. I am a newbie in this area Thanks for sharing your grandfather's medals. You must be very proud of him. I am attaching photos of Col Inkson's medals, a photo outside Buckingham Palace after receiving the DSO and an obituary that refers to his role in the 2nd Great Indian Peninsular Railway Battalion. Kind regards, Helen
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 21 July Author Posted 21 July Dear Helen, How kind of you to beam me the exact sort of scans which interest me the most! Many thanks. You may have noticed my eMail address included in my previous reply. The obituary was fascinating, and the Palace family group delightful! Of course the Norman Inkson medal group is most impressive: could you possibly beam me a scan of the reverse, please? The reason being, that the reverse impressed naming and Unit on his 1914-15 Star, is important. Likewise the engraved reverse of his Indian Volunteer Forces Decoration, is also important for the naming! I attach another picture of the popular Lt-Col Inkson, plus a recent one of myself (I turned 80 today, actually!). Kindest regards, Kim.
Helen Inkson Posted 22 July Posted 22 July Topaz has done a fantastic job. Thank you very much Howard. Kind regards Helen
