hmsk212 Posted 28 May , 2022 Share Posted 28 May , 2022 (edited) Hi His BWM and Vic would have been issued by the RAF and therefore not shown on the RFC (Army ) Mic. Sometimes the issue of the medals is noted on the reverse of the mans Air79 file but in this case they have not been. "These 2 sold online for £2500 on 1st May 2022" Thats quite a big and rapid profit as they were sold on 2nd April 2022 by ADG Auctions for £1080 plus fees. Thanks Steve. Yes. Highest price, by far, that I've seen for a single MM, despite it being a RFC/RAF award. Someone wanted it badly! Surprised that his final RAF service no. was on the MIC, but no mention of the BWM & VM. Edited 28 May , 2022 by Ivor Anderson
hmsk212 Posted 28 May , 2022 Share Posted 28 May , 2022 (edited) Hi "Surprised that his final RAF service no. was on the MIC, but no mention of the BWM & VM." That is normally the way with RFC/RAF servicemen that were awarded the 14 or 14/15 Star. The stars are mentioned because at that time of "Entry into a Theatre of War" to qualify for the Stars the recipients were serving in the Army. They normally make note of the RAF service number appointment etc but unless the recipient did not serve overseas with the RAF then the War & Vic Medals are usually not noted. There are a few War & Victory Medal Rolls for the RAF. Steve Edited 28 May , 2022 by hmsk212

nils d Posted 29 May , 2022 Share Posted 29 May , 2022 His award will be presumably for aerial work.Would that be on FE2s or Bristol Fighters ?
nils d Posted 29 May , 2022 Share Posted 29 May , 2022 How can Woodward have a RFC number different to his RAF service number ? They should always be the same. Are we possibly looking at two different people with the same name? It's a fairly common name after all.

Hi This is fairly common and if you go to his service record for the number 79004 all it contains is the printed statement :- " The above mentioned was Re-Allocated Royal Flying Corps No 402600 in January 1918. For all information concerning him see loose leaf ledger sheet (now known as Air 79) filed under that number" Steve Edited 30 May , 2022 by hmsk212
