Bill Alexander Posted 23 March , 2005 Share Posted 23 March , 2005 Having read and heard much about the up-coming 60th Anniversary of the V-E Day, I realized that I have heard absolutely nothing about the 90th Anniversary of 2nd Battle of Ypres. I suppose that this has become lost in time? It is a bit of a pity that this significant battle in Canadian history will go un-noticed and the soldiers that fell will not be honoured. salientpoints Posted 23 March , 2005 Share Posted 23 March , 2005 There are things going on for this. I am sure they will get picked up by the press but not to the same extent (shame) Click on 'news from the front' as an example on my website Cheers Ryan
ianw Posted 23 March , 2005 Share Posted 23 March , 2005 I think you have to acknowledge that in generality Ypres is the best known centre of war rememberance there is - and has a formal ceremony every night to honour the Dead. However, I suppose 3rd Ypres will always be the best remembered of the battles. That said my Grandfather served in the trenches during 2nd Ypres and I am going over to honour his fallen 19th Hussar colleagues ! Rest assured that those who know anything about 1915, fully appreciate the splendid and legendary efforts of the Canadians.
