Remembered Today:

2nd Ypres 90th Anniversary

Having read and heard much about the up-coming 60th Anniversary of the V-E Day, I realized that I have heard absolutely nothing about the 90th Anniversary of 2nd Battle of Ypres. I suppose that this has become lost in time?

It is a bit of a pity that this significant battle in Canadian history will go un-noticed and the soldiers that fell will not be honoured.

There are things going on for this. I am sure they will get picked up by the press but not to the same extent (shame)

I think you have to acknowledge that in generality Ypres is the best known centre of war rememberance there is - and has a formal ceremony every night to honour the Dead. However, I suppose 3rd Ypres will always be the best remembered of the battles.

That said my Grandfather served in the trenches during 2nd Ypres and I am going over to honour his fallen 19th Hussar colleagues !

Rest assured that those who know anything about 1915, fully appreciate the splendid and legendary efforts of the Canadians.
