Clopae Posted 15 May , 2022 Share Posted 15 May , 2022 Good evening! Is anyone able to tell me what ‘34 OUD’ might mean on a soldier’s medical record? I’ve attached an image containing at least two examples. Many thanks, Danielle.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 15 May , 2022 Admin Share Posted 15 May , 2022 I think it’s UO, uncertain origin.can’t make out what the first letter is though. The usual was PUO, pyrexia (fever) of uncertain origin.
Clopae Posted 15 May , 2022 Author Share Posted 15 May , 2022 Hi Michelle, Looking at the surnames on the first page, a capital A could be the first letter… so AUO?
TEW Posted 15 May , 2022 Share Posted 15 May , 2022 (edited) Fourth one down is certainly PUO & 34. The 34 is a code used for the ailment, 34 for PUO repeated over many pages and 952 is always ICT or inflammation of connective tissue. Some entries actually do seem to have OUO with the same initial O as 'Old Wound leg left'. Perhaps an over worked clerk? If it has 34 it has to be PUO. Quite often the number codes have been added post war by the a Medical Research Committee. Not so I'd say with this April 1918 admission book, handwriting looks the same.
