Hi,

This book by Frederick Petford, covers the post war period and the great debate about not bringing the fallen home for private family burial.

The rich - officer class - were also shocked that all headstones would be the same, regardless of rank.

We take it all for granted now but at the time there was a great outcry.

There is a bit a romance and a murder thrown in to keep the story going and a bit of the supernatural too.

All in all a good, thought provoking read and the visits to the old battlefields and early graveyards are also covered.
