Sarchet Posted 3 May , 2022 Share Posted 3 May , 2022 This is an entry relating to the MkIII Signal Pistol but it is absent from Skennerton's abridged LoC books. Should be c.1915 based on present entries around it. If anyone has this entry on hand or can direct me to where it is available I would be much obliged. Sarchet Posted 5 May , 2022 Author Share Posted 5 May , 2022 Excellent, thank you. Do you know if there is a complete LoC available anywhere or is that something I'd need to take a trip to the UK and copy out of an archive myself? I'd love to track down the entry for the change in barrel profile.
14276265 Posted 7 May , 2022 Share Posted 7 May , 2022 Paper copies of WOLC series (October 1860 to April 1965) held in the UK, and which can be viewed by appointment by members of the public, are held by the Royal Armouries in Leeds, and possibly the Imperial War Museum, London. Regarding change of barrel profile, I attach paragraph para.18294 if it is of any use - it introduces the MkIII*.

Thanks, I hope to take a trip to the Armouries at some point so I'll add that to the list (and a week to my trip to copy them). Thats actually the paragraph that sent me looking for 17552, as it is one that got included in Skennerton's abridged LoC books. Here's the profile change, the entry (if there is one) should be c.1911-1913. Top is the barrel off 1911 dated S/N 437, bottom is a 1918 dated example. I've only seen the top barrel profile on a 1905 dated MkII signal pistol before this.
MaureenE Posted 7 May , 2022 Share Posted 7 May , 2022 List of Changes in War Material and of Patterns of Military Stores for 1917 are available online January to December 1917 (with Index) - Volume XXIX 17978 to 19686 - if link is not permanent use the record Search with Search term List of Changes in War Material and dates 1917 naa.gov.au. (Also 1904 12 monthly editions 11946 to 12524. nla.gov.au) I also have a note that these Lists may have been issued with Army Orders, but as a separate publication. If you have access to the National Archives at Kew, (and it is more convenient than Leeds) it might be worth checking whether the List of changes is also included with TNA series WO 123 Army Orders

Saving those for later. Unfortunately, anything in the UK is all roughly equally accessible to me - that is, not very, as I'm on the West Coast of the US. I'll keep the Army Orders in mind though in case nothing turns up in the LoC when I can get over there.
