Remembered Today:

Heights of land on the Somme

burlington

Recommended Posts

I know the heights above sea level of the main areas of high ground in the British sector of the Somme.

This is a bit meaningless unless one knows the approx height above sea level of the lower ground or valleys.

I can't work it out from the IGN Serie Bleue maps.

Does anyone have any idea- roughly? I know it will vary from place to place but some broad indication would be helpful.

Thanks

Martin

The Thiepval Memorial is at about 143m, the valley of the Ancre at the level crossing near Hamel on the Thiepval Road is at 76m if I read the maps correctly.
