Perth Digger Posted 24 April , 2022 Share Posted 24 April , 2022 In the useful airhistory.com lists there is just one reference to the above airman, with the following information: Musgrave Lt RJRF - 70Sq 00.06.17 Flying Officer Jun17 32/img_0192 2361. I have been unable to find anything else about him and would be grateful for any help. Thanks Mike
quemerford Posted 24 April , 2022 Share Posted 24 April , 2022 Seems to be Ronald Musgrave, West Yorks Regiment with no middle initials. 70 Sqn from 18 May 1917 but looks like a very short period of duty: his Casualty Form shows him posted to 2 AD on 19 May and then to 45 Sqn on 6 June. josquin Posted 26 April , 2022 Share Posted 26 April , 2022 Ronald Musgrave (no additional forenames), born 28 April 1892, Bradford, Yorkshire, was employed in Leeds before the war as a mechanical engineer (1907-12) and a civil engineer (1912-14). He was a Lieutenant in 8th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment (appointed Lt 1 June 1916) and was appointed a T/Lieutenant and Flying Officer in the R.F.C. on 31 March 1917. Posted to E.F. with 70 Squadron18 May 1917, then to 2 ASD 19 May 1917, then to 1 ASD 1 June 1917. He was posted on 6 June 1917 either to 45 Squadron (as per his RAF Casualty Form) or to 43 Squadron (as per his RAF Officer Service Record at AIR 76 National Archives), then posted to 57 Squadron 21 September 1917. Reprimaded in a General Court Martial in September, 1917, he was posted to Home Establishment 28 October 1917, he was posted to 2 ASD 12 November 1918, to 1 ASD 2 December 1918, to Home Establishment 23 September 1919, and to the Unemployed List 10 October 1919. Lieutenant Musgrave died in Yorkshire, in 1964. His birth, death and census records list only the single forename. I did not locate any details about his life in the postwar years.
