fremlin Posted 15 April , 2022 Share Posted 15 April , 2022 Here's an Easter challenge for the ID experts, please. I believe this soldier belongs to a Canadian regiment and is a cousin of the two girls in the picture, which was almost certainly taken in London, and has a date inscribed on the back - October 2015. One school of of thought is that he was a member of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (13th Battalion ??). Could this be true? Sorry it's the wrong way up ! fremlin Posted 16 April , 2022 Author Share Posted 16 April , 2022 Excellent - another triumph for the Great War Forum and its learned members. I have to say that I was initially puzzled by what I thought was cod-Latin on the badge, so apologies to gaelic speakers, I can now read up the exploits of 16th Bn. Canadian Scottish. I am much obliged.

16thBNCanScotJim Posted 17 April , 2022 Share Posted 17 April , 2022 (edited) The Gaelic motto for the 16th and the Current Canadian Scottish Regiment is; Deas Gu Cath (dee-a-us goo cath) Ready for the Fray. Interpretation is Ready for the hrs time, or ready for the fight! Edited 17 April , 2022 by 16thBNCanScotJim
