Is this a shoulder title on the officers uniform ?

Is this a trick of the light or is it actually a blank square for a shoulder title ?

He's an officer of a Liverpool City battalion (17, 18, 19 and 20th King's Regiment), wearing the cloth rectangle which identified the respective battalions (black, red, yellow or white, in order) as outlined in David Bilton's book The Badges of Kitchener's Army

Thanks for that, Capt H.L.Smith was 19th Btn, so I can deduce the colour
