ralphjd Posted 22 February , 2022 Share Posted 22 February , 2022 This man died 1917 42062 buried Rochdale Cemetery,(as W.Gourley) a Belfast newspaper states he was awarded the DCM in the Dardanelles , cannot find any trace anywhere of this or any award to him, no mention on his headstone, nothing on his MIC nor SDGW. Anyone shed any light on him, please. Ralph.
Allan1892 Posted 22 February , 2022 Share Posted 22 February , 2022 I have searched the London Gazette for the award of a DCM to this man and I'm afraid that there is no mention of him. Likewise, I have searched the database 'Citations of the Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1914-1920' as held on Ancestry and again, I have drawn a blank. Allan1892 Posted 22 February , 2022 Share Posted 22 February , 2022 His entry in the database for 'Ireland, World War I Casualties, 1914-1922' does not mention a DCM. (image courtesy of Ancestry)

charlie962 Posted 22 February , 2022 Share Posted 22 February , 2022 The newspapers often got confused by references to Commendations for Distinguished Conduct. Could it be one of these?
