seaJane Posted 10 February , 2022 Share Posted 10 February , 2022 Lifted from John's post on FB: "On March 5th there will be a performance of John Hawkins's song cycle ‘The Unknown Bird’ to words by Edward Thomas. The first of many settings Hawkins has made of Thomas's poetry; this one is for baritone with flute, viola and harp. The performance will be by John Lofthouse with the Aurora Trio at the church in Steep (Hampshire) where Thomas lived before he went off to France in 1917 and the War that killed him." It's not the only piece in the concert, which also includes music by Arnold Bax and Ivor Gurney: full details and booking here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/hm-collective/edward-thomas-words-music-performance/e-dxkeop. sJ
seaJane Posted 6 March , 2022 Author Share Posted 6 March , 2022 I went to this concert this evening and very much enjoyed it. Some excellent singing and playing and effective settings. Two great-grand-daughters and a great-great-nephew of Edward Thomas were present.
