Can anyone please assist with any information concerning the following individuals military careers in WW1, units, actions, medals issued etc, anything and everything that may be available

MATERNAL GRANDFATHER

1. 809 George Sumner, Lancs ( from engraving on Victory Medal ),

pre war territorial soldier, units unknown, born St-Helens Lancashire 1896, POW Somme 1916, possibly a Lancashire Regt, maybe Horse Artillery??, known medals: Victory Medal, Territorial War Service Medal.

PATERNAL GRANDFATHER

2. Ernest Baden Redvers Topham

From photograph ,Machine Gun Corps badge on hat, picture dated 1917, born Yorkshire 1900, Died Yorkshire 1966, no other information known, no medal information available.

I wish to honour there memory by framing what is available,and what may be puchased based on information recieved to hand down to my sons, along with my fathers WWII RAF medals and the medals from my own RAF Service.

Ian,

The engraving on the rim of your maternal grandfathers Victory medal should have his number (809), rank, initials, surname then unit/regiment/corps, what is the latter - Lanc Fus or R Lanc R?
