Interestingly according to the LLT 7th RSF amalgamated with 6th RSF 13th May 1916,

Warden Baker was born in Constantinople and probably new the area and maybe some languages. After his wounding with 7RSF in 1915 perhaps given a Liaison job rather than frontline company role?

I shall now check out Lt E Macfarren of 7th RIR  and see where that leads.  Thomas certainly finished off with Warden Baker.

There are several newspaper reports from Macfarren in 1914.

So perhaps Thomas was batman to Macfarren until the latter returned to UK and Thomas then switched  with Warden Baker ? .............

Macfarren must have been an interesting character to work for. Just missed out at being present for the big event of 1914(or of the century)!

Brilliant information Charlie 962 , yes indeed seems very likely - looking through the diary Batman duties seemed to encompass the roles of cook , banker , feeding of horses and finding forrage for same.

I provided the links earlier to either findmypast or Ancestry. If you haven't a sub, your local library should be able to give you free access. From the link I provided you will have a choice of records! Spoilt for choice.

On the M or F or T I replied earlier that they are all the same man , Thomas. Clerical errors just making it harder for us to trace!

At least you were proud to display them. Better than festering forgotten in a drawer. But check insurance?

When you have obtained copies, do come back to this thread for further clarification etc.

Any more diary pages? You have tempted us.....
