Old Bid Posted 30 January , 2022 Share Posted 30 January , 2022 Hi, Researching a Thomas Chewter (b.27/10/88) R H T D whose service records are online, Says he was posted base depot Kantaia 1/5/19 and served in India and South Africa. I cannot find a medal index card or other medal info. Is this because it was after the Armistice? What medals would he have been entitled to, if any? Allan1892 Posted 31 January , 2022 Share Posted 31 January , 2022 Having read through his service records, he attested on 11 December 1915 but was not mobilised until 26 June 1918. There isn't any mention of him being sent overseas until 1919. To be awarded the British War Medal, he would have had to meet the following criteria: This silver medal was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war (an area of active fighting) or served overseas (perhaps as a garrison soldier) between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 inclusive. This was later extended to services in Russia, Siberia and some other areas in 1919 and 1920. To be awarded the Victory Medal, he would have had to meet the following criteria: To qualify, an individual had to have entered a theatre of war (an area of active fighting), not just served overseas. He does not appear on the Medal Index Cards or the Medal Rolls which indicates that he did not meet the criteria for the two medals mentioned above.
