J T Gray Posted 16 March , 2005 Share Posted 16 March , 2005 Hmm. My first thought was a Sopwith Dolphin, but a little Google threw up a picture and it was SIMILIAR but not the same. Anyway, I think in Dolphins the pilot's head was actualy THROUGH the top wing. Could be a Sopwith Snipe - see http://www.theaerodrome.com/aircraft/gbrit...with_snipe.html Right shaped cockpit, right shaped nose, if you look carefully you can JUST see the pitot tube in the same place. Mind you I'll feel really chuffed if one of the experts says I AM right... Adrian

Dolphin Posted 16 March , 2005 Share Posted 16 March , 2005 Patrick I'd say it was a Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe too. The rounded fuselage and two bay wings, the upper wing located at the pilot's eye level, as well as the Venturi tube on the centre-section strut, are apparent in the photograph below of the late-production Snipe that was evaluated by the French government.
