Josh Posted 20 January , 2022 Share Posted 20 January , 2022 Hi all, I'm looking to find out more about the 'When I join the ranks' booklet that was issued to British soldiers during the FWW. I've been unable to find much online, besides people selling replicas. Any information regarding when it was first published and the reasons for doing so, would be greatly appreciated. I'm under the impression it was published either prior to or just after the introduction of the MSA 1916, but this hasn't been confirmed. Also, is there any official documentation concerning its production at either TNA or another archive? J
ss002d6252 Posted 20 January , 2022 Share Posted 20 January , 2022 It was written and printed by a publishing company, rather than the government themselves. I'm not sure if it was ever officially provided to new soldiers (images from BNA). Craig
Josh Posted 24 January , 2022 Author Share Posted 24 January , 2022 Hi Craig, Thanks for this, I really appreciate it. V interesting, I'd noted that it was a private publisher but I did wonder whether they were under-contract from the government. I shall have to purchase one of the replicas to have a look.
