thedawnpatrol Posted 18 January , 2022 Share Posted 18 January , 2022 Just come across this trio to 1342 Private John Edward Jones, nothing unusual in them except that sadly his name has been pretty much obliterated from all three, except for glimpses of enough detail to work out and be able to pay the greatest respect for this young man. im not really a Medal collector, I've just inherited a large collection, so i just wondered if any of you had come across such defacing of WW1 medals before? BillyH Posted 18 January , 2022 Share Posted 18 January , 2022 Buffing names off is one thing, but what has been done to the Star amounts to vandalism? BillyH.
RedCoat Posted 19 January , 2022 Share Posted 19 January , 2022 Yes, I have seen this before - its usually said that they were often defaced by the family, prior to sale to a pawn shop or the like.

Ah- that makes more sense than them being used by someone else who has lost their medals.
