Directed by John Ford, no less, though I gather he was not proud of it. It starts off well enough, with a schooner crewed by US sailors setting off to fool a U-boat towards the end of the Great War. But it soon goes downhill, with annoying comic sailors and a very improbable romance between the schooner's commander and the sister of the U-boat commander (!!!), played by Marion Lessing, who can't act.

The best thing is probably the U-boat, actually USS Argonaut, launched in 1927 and then the largest submarine in the world. The way its periscope is raised and lowered is interesting.
