KIRKY Posted 15 March , 2005 Share Posted 15 March , 2005 Just returned from Somme trip, very cold but dry. couple of questions for those in know: What has happened to Beaucourt Station Cafe?? Is it shut? Is Delville wood normally closed now on a Monday? It was shut yesterday. The fields seem late being seeded this year , is this correct? Hello to Ypresman and Ypres who we met at Serre, great pair of guys and very helpful, hope your video of Somme comes off, put me down for a couple of copies! Desmond7 Posted 15 March , 2005 Share Posted 15 March , 2005 I hear Beaucourt Station cafe being 'done up' by the helicopter trip people?
burlington Posted 15 March , 2005 Share Posted 15 March , 2005 Tony It is surely too soon to sow, even for grass. The weather is still too cold and wet to allow for easy germination. Frosts would damage potatoes & corn. Better to sow late and get an improved yield than to sow early and fail! Last year, I had the coldest time ever on the Somme early May and the farmers were still ploughing. In September they were reaping the rewards of their labours. ypresman Posted 16 March , 2005 Share Posted 16 March , 2005 Hi Tony Was a bit nippy wasn't it? Thought I'd left me fingers behind in the woods.... The guy with me was Iain McHenry, I am doing one video and he already has his DVD out on sale, if it is regarding the flying over the battlefield one? It was very nice to meet you guys and no doubt "we'll meet again, don't know when, don't................. Take care Marc. (Ypresman)
Muerrisch Posted 16 March , 2005 Share Posted 16 March , 2005 About ten years ago: anniversary of Vimy, at Vimy Ridge, freezing and windy with hail ............ Totally ill-prepared, thought France a touch warmer than here!
Mark Hone Posted 16 March , 2005 Share Posted 16 March , 2005 Delville Wood has always closed on a Monday, as far as I am aware. I took a school party there on a Monday in 1994 on my first battlefields tour, having been assured by the travel company that it was open, only to find it firmly shut. Since then i have arranged all my tour itineraries myself.
Paul Reed Posted 17 March , 2005 Share Posted 17 March , 2005 Delville Wood is never open on a Monday. Until Easter weekend it is also operating on winter times, so closes at 3.45pm.
