MERLINV12 Posted 4 January , 2022 Share Posted 4 January , 2022 Maybe one for those of you with interest in Middle East, but help from anyone very much appreciated. Please see SR extract below: I am puzzled by the date format, the preceding date is 5/9/18, following date is 3/3/19. The entire middle line, which I think includes maybe a ship name and Basra. 3rd line, to join ?????? force. TIA.
TEW Posted 4 January , 2022 Share Posted 4 January , 2022 The entries on a B.103 form are not always in strict chronological order. Looks to me like he embarked at Basra on HT Thuya 9/12/18 to join Salonica? expeditionary force. The 9 has been added later to 12/18. TEW

TEW Posted 4 January , 2022 Share Posted 4 January , 2022 Afraid not, nor the word after what I see as Thuya. TEW
MerchantOldSalt Posted 4 January , 2022 Share Posted 4 January , 2022 I think this may well be the SS SHUJA of 1916 belonging to the Bombay & Persia Steam Navigation Company Off No. 137529. Tony
TEW Posted 4 January , 2022 Share Posted 4 January , 2022 SS Shula looks a good call, certainly seems to be operating from/to Basra. Sometimes cropping up as HT Shula (hospital transport?) TEW

TEW The SS SHUJA was a Hired Transport TEW, more normally used in the pilgrim trade but taken up by the Army as a Transport, I think, as I can't find her in the Admiralty lists.
