Womens Forestry Service Cap Badge

Hello All,

I found this photograph of a Womens Forestry Service Cap/Hat Badge on the IWM website and wonder if it is the only surviving example?  My Grandmother Nellie Wright was a member of the service and her photograph shows her wearing the same badge.

I don't know the answer to your question, but that's a wonderful picture of your grandmother! Thank you for posting it.

Thank you for your very kind comment.  She was a lovely kind lady and even though I am now 64, I think about her a lot 😀

I am not surprised - I think a lot about my father's mother too, although she was only 5 when the Great War started. There must have been photographs of my other grandmother (who worked at Woolwich Arsenal) but they went to another part of the family.

The Women kept the UK going during WW1 with so many roles to play 👍

Couldn't agree with you more. My maternal grandmother worked in munitions in the North-East of England during the Great War and I have a great admiration for all the women that stepped up to do their bit for the war effort. Bless 'em all.         Pete.
