thetrenchrat22 Posted 13 December , 2021 Share Posted 13 December , 2021 “I believe we have the right to question historical investigations that are blatantly wrong even when it may remove a name from a headstone.” the case my colleagues Great Uncle in Fosse 7, is a classic one. All details on the battlefield cross were correct but because 1 digit of the service number was wrong but the whole number did match that of another soldier in the same battalion, the IWGC decided to allocate the grave to the other soldier, even the surname, first name initials and date of death didn’t match. So we questioned it and finally in 2019, the grave was correctly allocated. It begs the question, why aren’t the CWGC not doing this type of research where they hold all this information at there finger tips for the last hundred years In mid 1990’s, the CWGC decided that the unknown Lieutenant of the Irish Guards in St Mary’s ADS was the grave of John Kipling. Why didn’t the IWGC allocate, the grave then when they had the actual remains to work with.
