 Hello, I know its a long shot, but did anyone know or know of Private Fred Haycroft?

He was in the York and Lancs, maybe he was in the Barnsley pals.

I know he lost an arm but I don't know how or where. I would very much like to find out these details as I'm trying to piece together my husbands family history.

Fred was my husbands Great Grandfather.

Thanks, Lisa.

Hi Lisa

welcome to the forum

You can download his Medal Index Card from the National Archives NA Site

this may or may not give you the battalion,

you can also look into what the Regiment was doing during the great war

the long trail

hope this helps

Thanks for this Chris, I already have a copy of his medal card and it doesn't tell me a great deal. Still trying to fathom this site.

Welcome to the Forum, Lisa! :)

You could upload a copy of the M.I.C. and let others help explain it. You can also see a section on "The Long, Long Trail" called "Interpreting Campaign Medal Index Cards" put up by Chris Baker, link.
