Remembered Today:

WHITWELL CAMP

Has anyone heard of Whitwell Camp? The address I have is 'via Mansfield, Derbyshire'. It may be either a fixed barracks or, more likely, a place for field exercises. My subject served in an ASC company there in 1917.

Many thanks,

Despite a couple of hours trawling the world wide web for anything of a military slant with regards to Whitwell in Derbyshire, the only thing I found which might be of interest is the existence of the Whitwell Local Historical Group.

Their email address is: wlhg@hopkins-uk.co.uk

This clip from 1910 is local news from the Whitwell, Eckington and Cresswell areas and references "Barracks".

If you can find Marsh Farm you can walk to it.

May be a long shot

Dave

Many thanks chaps, I'm most grateful for all your assistance. I can't find Marsh Farm (including on a Victorian historical map) and Whilst Clipstone Camp is possible, I have no more evidence. However, I've emailed the Historical Group and maybe its members can come up with something.
