Hedley Malloch Posted 29 October , 2021 Share Posted 29 October , 2021 Can anyone recommend any good books or articles on the use of railways in WW1, in GB or on the Western Front or both? Scholarly books preferred. Many thanks in advance.

David Filsell Posted 2 November , 2021 Share Posted 2 November , 2021 (edited) Can any railway enthusiast confirm that Southern Region received government funding to improve railway lines, services and etc prior to the Great War from London to ensure swift military transportation or provide any sources of information for such a measure - if indeed it is a fact please. ianjonesncl Posted 3 November , 2021 Share Posted 3 November , 2021 A few books I have Railways of the Great War Michael Portillo Britain's Railway in World War JAB HAMILTON Trains to the Trenches - Men Locomotives and Tracks 1914-1918 Andrew Roden North Eastern Railway In the First World War Rob Lanhgham Portillo's Railways of the Great War and Roden's Trains to the Trenches are modern books. Britain's' Railways in the Great War was published in 1967. Rob Langham's book is specific to the North Eastern Railway, however, I think many aspects of that company's operation would be similar to other railway companies.
