Pension Ledger Index Card

This entry from the back of a Pension Ledger Index Card [PLIC] for a single former soldier claiming a disability pension for Confusional Insanity and apparently admitted/in an asylum/mental hospital as a Service Patient in 1920 and still there 21.2.1921.  He was considered 100% disabled whilst in the asylum/mental hospital.  Another annotation on the front of the PLIC shows he later died 9/8/22 = Pte. John COUPLAND, 634419, Labour Corps [ex-Lincolnshire Regt .,330]

1] = What is this entry for? [What is it an abbreviation for?]

2] = He was clearly continuing to be in the asylum/mental hospital at that date of entry - What implications for his pension claim whilst admitted/after this entry?

Conditional List BooK 7 series Asylum

Usually used for conditional pensions but presumably used for other cases as well.

It seems they continued to receive the pension, from what I can tell. Originally the pension was lowered by the cost of care but this was stopped in most cases for policy reasons.

Thank you.

Policy reasons? Or political reasons??

The MoP official reason was that it otherwise stigmatised pauperism in discharged men.

Thank you - no doubt policy for political reasons.!  ;-)

Always interested in your source(s)

Was it subject to parliamentary debate then? - Perhaps in Hansard?

Reported in the annual return as discussions between the War Office and the Minister.
