PyroraptorOlympius1945 Posted 15 October , 2021 Share Posted 15 October , 2021 Does anyone have any information on the 7th Bn. Gloucestershire Regt., 39th Brigade, 13th (Western) Division, IX Corps? 6 of my relatives served with the battalion, George Brooker and William Barnfield both serving in A Co., the former of which was wounded at Chunuk Bair, a day after his 20th birthday. After this conflict I am aware that the 7th Gloucesters temporarily amalgamated with 9th Worcesters and that the vast majority of the battalions officers were either killed or wounded. For context, 7th Gloucesters landed in Gallipoli in June 1915, specifically Cape Helles, 'Y' beach. Further information and photographs or postcards of the battalion would be appreciated! sotonmate Posted 3 February , 2022 Share Posted 3 February , 2022 Ancestry has a War Diary for reading, membership required or you might get free access at a local Library. Here the Nat Archives link to the 38 Infantry Brigade War Diaries (WO95/4302) https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4557455 There is evidence in 7 Gloucesters WD of a History being produced around 1931 as there is a page or two included between an Officer and a military author (?). SimonB Posted 14 March , 2022 Share Posted 14 March , 2022 I have some photos of my grandfather with groups of men at Bristol Barracks. He joined the 7th Glosters at Suvla which I am grateful for as I may not be here writing this. https://soldiersofglos.com/announcement/gallipoli/ ... hadn't seen this ... and the first mention I had heard of the 7th Glosters Hussars .... my Grandfather was recruited into the Princess Alexandria Hussars (you can see it is a different Cap Badge to the Sphinx badge) but served with the Glosters. How did that work and is calling them the Gloucestershire Hussars correct ? Send photo of your ancestor and I could check with photos of mine. PyroraptorOlympius1945 Posted 14 March , 2022 Author Share Posted 14 March , 2022 17 minutes ago, SimonB said: Hi Simon, I really appreciate your comment - I'm glad to hear that your grandfather served alongside the 7th Glo'sters! As you mentioned the Hussars, he could have been attached to 1/1st Royal Gloucestershire Hussars who also saw action at Suvla Bay. A lot of the photos you have posted are very interesting; can see a lot of Lincolns and other regiments and they are simply lovely photos. I love the one of the Lincolns presenting arms and there are two Glo'sters in the background! I'll add a picture of my great uncle George in another comment; he served with the 7th Bn. 21 minutes ago, SimonB said:
