Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2E 7146

Hello,

There is a photo of Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2e at:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?item=234179821843&hash=item3686348113%3Ag%3AGo0AAOSwruRhOfr0&_ssn=streamline89&_sop=10

The rear of the photo has the information Egypt and pilot killed. I've checked the RFC serial site at :

http://www.airhistory.org.uk/rfc/aircraft.html

This has little information just 20 Reserve Wing and XAD. I'm not sure if the latter means 10th Air Depot.

My questions Was 7146 assigned to a squadron at any stage and who was the pilot killed?

Regards,

Clint

Someone has done some investigating on the selling site and has added that It appears that this plane crashed at Aboukir on the 26/7/1917, and was being piloted by 2nd Lt Rowe, who was NOT killed in the accident.

The Rowe on 26 May 1917 was not the FH Rowe who later flew 7146. FH Rowe began flying instruction in August 1917.

So it must transpire that the Seller has got the wrong information on the sale site as the date of the crash  26/7 instead of 26/5, that makes more sense.
