Clint Posted 13 September , 2021 Share Posted 13 September , 2021 Hello, There is a photo of Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2e at: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?item=234179821843&hash=item3686348113%3Ag%3AGo0AAOSwruRhOfr0&_ssn=streamline89&_sop=10 The rear of the photo has the information Egypt and pilot killed. I've checked the RFC serial site at : http://www.airhistory.org.uk/rfc/aircraft.html This has little information just 20 Reserve Wing and XAD. I'm not sure if the latter means 10th Air Depot. My questions Was 7146 assigned to a squadron at any stage and who was the pilot killed? Regards, Clint
quemerford Posted 13 September , 2021 Share Posted 13 September , 2021 X Air Depot was at Aboukir; it's 'X' (as in xyz), not '10'.
Knotty Posted 14 September , 2021 Share Posted 14 September , 2021 Someone has done some investigating on the selling site and has added that It appears that this plane crashed at Aboukir on the 26/7/1917, and was being piloted by 2nd Lt Rowe, who was NOT killed in the accident. mickdavis Posted 14 September , 2021 Share Posted 14 September , 2021 The Rowe on 26 May 1917 was not the FH Rowe who later flew 7146. FH Rowe began flying instruction in August 1917. 7146 BE2e. To Middle East. X AD dd ex England 2.12.1916. 23 RS Aboukir by 6.2.1917 (2Lt T. Owen) and wrecked 26.5.1917 (2Lt Rowe OK, stalled on take-off). X AD ex 20th Wing 26.5.1917. 20th Wing dd ex X AD 10.8.1917. 23 TS by 19.9.1917 until @ 27.9.1917 (2Lt F.H. Rowe). X AD ex 20 Training Wing 28.10.1917 and deleted 25.11.1917. Knotty Posted 14 September , 2021 Share Posted 14 September , 2021 So it must transpire that the Seller has got the wrong information on the sale site as the date of the crash 26/7 instead of 26/5, that makes more sense.
