JWK Posted 28 August , 2021 Share Posted 28 August , 2021 Forres in Scotland? (see signature of the photographer) There was a Hospital for the War Wounded there in WW1 https://www.scotlandswar.ed.ac.uk/Moray/Casualties-Auxiliary-Hospitals/Forres-Auxiliary-Hospital Probably not made inside the hospital (the building doens't look too big), but maybe in the local concerthall? "On 10 november 1915, the first anniversary of the arrival of the first patients at the Institute, a concert was held for patients and local people alike." PRC Posted 28 August , 2021 Share Posted 28 August , 2021 The British Red Cross site only lists one nurse at Forres, and she was only there for 60 hours in August 1918, so very slim chance she would have been in either picture. The edition of the Aberdeen Evening Express dated June 22, 1918 includes a list of recent awards of the Royal Red Cross. Among the 2nd Class awards was Miss Annie Tina Philip, matron of Forres Auxiliary Hospital. The Morayshire Roll of Honour includes the following entry:- PHILIP, Annie Tina. Matron, V.A.D. Auxiliary Hospital, Forres ; born at Auchness, Dallas, 24th Oct., 1868 ; awarded Royal Red Cross. Daughter of George Philip, Auchness, Dallas, and Christina Smith. Occupation, trained nurse. https://digital.nls.uk/rolls-of-honour/archive/100240272?mode=transcription The same source turned up:- HAMILTON, ANNIE. Nurse, V.A.D.; born at Forres, 26th Nov., 1883; joined at Forres, 5th August , 1914. Daughter of Andrews (deceased) and Agnes Hamilton. https://digital.nls.uk/rolls-of-honour/archive/100240020 JEANS, MAY. The edition of the Forres News and Advertiser dated 13 May 1922 included a list of Red Cross workers at the hospital who were awarded medals by the local Committee. Image courtesy FindMyPast. The names regularly crop up in the local pre and post war, but I wasn't able to find a picture to compare with the nurses in the images above. Hope that's of interest, Peter
