Arne Vandendriessche Posted 27 August , 2021 Share Posted 27 August , 2021 (edited) In Zoom Farm my first post was about: Three soldiers were shot for misconduct. It happened on the minefield/practice field. One was buried in Bandaghem. The other two are still in the ground. I don't know if they dump the bodies there or if they put the bodies somewhere? Are there any good sources to identify shot soldiers? I may be able to find the name of a soldier buried on Bandaghem, but the other two are nowhere to be found and I'd like to identify them. (If it's possible) Arne Edited 27 August , 2021 by Arne Vandendriessche

TEW Posted 27 August , 2021 Share Posted 27 August , 2021 It's normally suggested that those men shot by firing squad were offered the same respect in death and burial as everyone else so would have had a proper grave and grave marker. Sometimes these graves get lost, markers damaged or shelling. I recall from posts long ago about an execution where the soldier was held in a barn and was taken from there to a field where he was shot. He was buried in the corner of the field with no marker. I have no idea how many of those shot by execution now have known graves or graves now lost or those unaccounted for. I'd say it is possible that ummarked graves for the executed could exist. I had a quick look and can see executions taking place at Sint-Sixtusabdij/West-Vlaanderen, only 1400m from Lovie. TEW
