coops Posted 10 March , 2005 Share Posted 10 March , 2005 Having searched the explanatory preambles in the monthly Army Lists I cannot find the answer to a simple question, and hope that someone can enlighten me. In the lists, next to an officer’s name & posting there are often two different appointment dates listed. An example Captain Instructor in Gunnery Clapham, Capt. D., R.A., g (Shoeburyness) ( 1 Apr. 13 ( 20 Feb. 13 Why are there two dates? Which date accurately represents the date of the appointment? And what does the other represent? Wienand Drenth Posted 24 April , 2005 Share Posted 24 April , 2005 Hello, With respect to the two dates: the first date (oldest) can be that when the person in question got the rank, and the second when he was posted to the regiment, battalions. This is one explanation I have often seen. I hope this helps. Cheers, Wienand
