It would seem that G.L. died during the morning retreat after an Ottoman attack - and certainly before 10:00 a.m - see https://www.passeyfamilytree.org.uk/military/WarDiary19150810thBnHampshireRegt.php

Yes, it is a wonderful photograph of GL. I so deseperately would like to look at his papers in the Bodleian once all this kerfuffle over a red-listed Turkey is over and I can get some time in the UK - been stuck in Turkey now since 17th March 2020, and haven't even seen my twin grandchildren yet - my last visit was in February 2020, they were born in May....
