4thGordons Posted 31 July , 2021 Posted 31 July , 2021 Photograph in a recently acquired mixed lot of German photographs My best guess is this is the breech/loading mechanism of a 30.5cm gun (based on caption which I read as "Verschluss 30.5 Kanon") gun. So is this in a warship or a railway gun or.... perhaps even something else and my guess is way off? Chris
AndyBsk Posted 31 July , 2021 Posted 31 July , 2021 There is Verschluss von 30,5cm Kanone. I assume only ship Kanone could be real, mounted by two barells. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/30.5_cm_SK_L/50_gun
AOK4 Posted 31 July , 2021 Posted 31 July , 2021 Most probably ship guns converted to a heavy land battery, like in Houthulst Forest (if you have my book "Defending the Ypres Front 1914-1918", there's something about such a battery). Jan

And this of railway guns (although the first word has been obliterated so I am not sure if these are actually German guns or perhaps French Guns which were captured?)
GreyC Posted 1 August , 2021 Posted 1 August , 2021 Hi, both are not German, as written on the cards: 1) Französische Billy Kanone 2.) Erbeutete Eisenbahngeschütze GreyC

The Billy gun is a gun captured in March 1916 near Verdun. Edited 1 August , 2021 by AOK4
AndyBsk Posted 1 August , 2021 Posted 1 August , 2021 Maybe the backside of the card could help by explanation looks like the turret armor is removed and some repair was done there.
4thGordons Posted 1 August , 2021 Author Posted 1 August , 2021 Cards are all totally blank on reverse unfortunately. Feeling rather silly that I failed to recognize Franz. as an abbreviation and read it as a name! (As in Franz Ferdinand) 😩 thanks both Chris
