Terry_Reeves Posted 9 March , 2005 Share Posted 9 March , 2005 Chris The rank was principally used by the RE, but I have sen it used in the ASC, mainly pre-war. 2nd Cpl was a separate rank, fitting in between L/Cpl and Cpl. Guest davewith Posted 4 April , 2005 Share Posted 4 April , 2005 Chris, My grandfathers rank, as shown on his certificate of service for 1913 to 1919, is 'acting ll corporal'. He served throughout the war with 1st. and 3rd Field Squadrons R.E. A picture of him sometime before his discharge shows him with one stripe which we associate with the rank of lance corporal.
