Guest Ian Topham Posted 14 June , 2003 Posted 14 June , 2003 I require information as to what Uniform Embellishments e.g Army, Corps, Division, Brigade and Battalion cloth or metal uniform embellishments a soldier of the 9th Battalion, Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Regiment would have worn on or about 9th April 1917 in the Battle of the Scarpe and as for above, for a solder of the 10th Battalion West Yorkshire ( Prince of Wale's Own) Regiment on or about 1st July 1916 in the Battle of the Somme, Fricourt area of the line Many thanks Ian Topham QE II NZ Army Museum Waiouru New Zealand
Paul Reed Posted 14 June , 2003 Posted 14 June , 2003 9/KOYLI flash was a yellow circle, worn on the upper sleeves, and just below the collar at the rear of the tunic. It was also sometimes painted on helmets. Can't help with the 10/West Yorks - expect to say that I am not sure they wore one on 1st July 1916. I believe their divisional scheme of flashes didn't come in until later.
