Skipo Posted 27 July , 2021 Posted 27 July , 2021 Henry BLACK [13462] 1st Bn., The Worcestershire Regiment All, Very grateful for some help - I am trying to narrow down when the above man (who died of wounds on 19 February 1915) joined up. His service record is missing but from the available records online I know that he landed in France on 12 December 1914. Is there a way that the date of him joining the army can be ascertained by his service number? Grateful for any pointers. Best, Skip
Admin RussT Posted 27 July , 2021 Admin Posted 27 July , 2021 You can estimate when the number was allotted from here: Army Service Numbers 1881-1918: Worcestershire Regiment - regular battalions - 1881-1914 Assuming it was from the regular series. If he was originally in the special reserve (5th/6th Bn) then they would have had their own numbering series - you would need to check if that were a possibility. Regards Russ
Skipo Posted 27 July , 2021 Author Posted 27 July , 2021 Many thanks Russ, that's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. The link very helpfully states "13476 joined on 19th March 1914" and the person I'm interested was only 14 service numbers ahead of this. Very much appreciate your reply. Best, Skip
