  • Michelle Young changed the title to Any one recognise this village I have a soldier pic says Cranbrook photographer on back

Doesn't look like Cranbrook Church which has no spire and has different style windows.  Likely to be near Cranbrook though as the photographer is from there.

You mentioned a soldier pic, not seen.

Another avenue to search would be Russell Ironmongers

The only Russells Ironmonger listed in the 1903 Kelly's Directory for Kent is David Russell of Rolvenden.

The churches seem to match?

Rolvenden is six miles from Cranbrook.

EDIT: David beat me to it, after I spent a long time fumbling through on-line Kelly's Directories!

Same business and location on the 1913 Kelly's, plus Arthur Stickells, Photographer at the High Street, Cranbrook, Kent on the 1911 Census of England & Wales. Was just working on taking a screenshoot of Goggle Streetviews when David beat us all too it :)

Cheers,
Peter
