Guest Alan Bradley Posted 8 March , 2005 Share Posted 8 March , 2005 William enlisted in Feb 1910 and went to war in the Balkans with the 4th Btn. He was gazetted 21 Aug 1917 shown to be in 3rd Btn. I am trying to fing out where he may have recieved the recognition for this award. He later was wounded and discharged sick in April 19. At that time he was renumbered as 620158 Labour Corp. I would also appreciate any info on why he would have been transferred to the corp, due to his wounds maybe? Thanks.
Terry_Reeves Posted 8 March , 2005 Share Posted 8 March , 2005 Alan At the time his MM was gazetted, 3rd Worcesters were part of 76 Brigade, 25th Division. The Division was part of the Anzac Corps, for the assault on Messines Ridge 7-14 July 1917 and six weeks later it was engaged in the main British attack on the Pilkem Ridge 31 July - 2 August. Given the gazette date, I would guess that his MM was for the Messines attack. Terry Reeves
