Hello

Has anyone a copy of the Navy List or similar for the WW1-period outling daily pay for all officers and men in the Royal Navy?

I have the bulk of these details, but payments for some trades and classes or rating are still needed or need confirmation.

Any help much appreciated,

Richard

Hello Richard

To get this information, you need one of the bi annual issues of the NAVY LIST as it is not contained in the regular issues. The July 1914 issue does contain this information and I have a copy. What your specific wants?

Taken from NAVY LIST July 1914 issue. "Tables of the Full Pay and Wayges of the Royal Navy and of the Royal Marines When Embarked." As you noted in your request, supplements to pay will increase the rates.

Just of interest, an Admiral of the Fleet was paid 6 pounds per day in this issue.

on advancement after 2 years 14

on advancement after 4 years 15

on advancement after 6 years 16

after 6 years 12

LCDR and LT got an addition 1 pound per day if they were in independent command of a ship, or in command of any tender or a flotilla of submarines.

Acting S/LT 3 schillings, 6 pence

S/LT or Acting S/LT serving afloat who has completed all the examinations for the rank of LT 5 schillings

CPO 3 schillings, 8 pence

after three years 4 schillings

after six years 4 schillings, 4 pence

Stoker 1c 2 schillings, 1 pence

after 6 years service 2 schillings, 4 pence

Stoker 2c 1 schilling, 8 pence

ERA 5c 3 schillings

ERA 4c 5 schillings, 6 pence
