Steve2000 Posted 12 July , 2021 Share Posted 12 July , 2021 Hi, I know this might be a long shot but is anyone able to help identify what I believe to be a WW1 POW camp from these postcards? There is a hand written note suggesting it was East Germany or possibly Poland. Thanks
GreyC Posted 12 July , 2021 Share Posted 12 July , 2021 It´s the German Pow-Camp in Sprottau, today part of Poland. GreyC

Now I know what to search for I have found lots of other picture and content on the forum. I believe this was the camp my Great Grandfather was held in, we have always had a whole book of postcards but never knew which camp it was until now. Best wishes Steve

RaySearching Posted 13 July , 2021 Share Posted 13 July , 2021 If your great grandfather was a POW He should have a ICRC record which can be searched for HERE Ray

For example, the German name Maier would be filed with Meyer and Meier. Indexing was also done phonetically, so you could think about how a Francophone would pronounce the name. This week has been manic but will try and look over the weekend if it is quieter!
