johntanner Posted 20 June , 2021 Share Posted 20 June , 2021 The Register of Soldiers Effects shows that he was discharged on 10 May 1916 and dies on 2 August 1916. His sole legatee was his aunt Mrs Sarah Frost. These details are confirmed by his Dependant's Pension card, which shows her address as 30 Fotheringham Road, Enfield. The discharge date is corroborated by his MIC, which shows he entered France on 18 August 1914. He appears to be a non-commemoration but his death certificate is eluding me, although the proximity between date of discharge and death suggests a likely attributable cause. Can anyone help? johntanner Posted 20 June , 2021 Author Share Posted 20 June , 2021 Possibly but we are looking at a regular soldier will a very low AVC number, so I've assumed an older man. I'd see this one before. So the number 166 was issued in November 1906, to a man on transfer from the RFA/RHA. Men with lower numbers were discharged on termination of engagement in 1905/6. Then 226 was issued to a man transferring from the RFA in 1906, who enlisted in 1901. And 356 transferred from the Coldstream Guards in November 1910, having been posted from the Depot to the 1st Bn in July 1909.
johntanner Posted 20 June , 2021 Author Share Posted 20 June , 2021 But he does seem to be the only possibility, assuming the date of death is correct, so I might just take a chance on ordering the DC.

He was subsequently RFA. I've also seen younger men with 43? numbers in Hospital Admissions: 434 Sgt Fairbrother C, age 23, 5 6/12 svc, 1 8/12 Field, in April 1916, 35th MobVetSec 439 Pte Henson A, age 22, 4yrs Svc in Nov 1914, 5th Fd S. 431 Beattie J, age 30, 10yrs Svc, 1 8/12 Field, in April 1916, 15 Vet Hosp another 417 Fisher W, age 28, 4/12 Svc in Nov 1914 9th MobSec So I agree age 20 in 1916 thus 18 in 1914 looks a bit young. johntanner Posted 26 June , 2021 Author Share Posted 26 June , 2021 Terry Denham has accepted him into IFCP for further investigation as his service record shows he was discharged due to TB aggravated by war service.
