HERITAGE PLUS Posted 10 June , 2021 Share Posted 10 June , 2021 (edited) There is a family tree for Jon's suggested man on Ancestry. His MIC shows the award of an MC. PRC Posted 10 June , 2021 Share Posted 10 June , 2021 9 minutes ago, jonbem said: Captain James Harvey Bounds, RAMC Military Cross citation in the London Gazette Supplement 26 July 1918 shows him as Quartermaster and Honorary Captain. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30813/supplement/8779/data.pdf He was commissioned as Quartermaster with honorary rank of Lieutenant in the 2nd East Lancashire Field Ambulance, effective 14th December 1914. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29015/page/10940/data.pdf According to his MiC he first went overseas, to France, on the 22nd April 1917. When he applied for his service medals in October 1922 his address was 37 Back George Street, Manchester, subsequently 4 Langdale Road, Heaton Chapel, Stockport. Looks like Ancestry have a Pension Ledger Card for him which is likely to reflect any post-war promotion. I can't see any surviving officer records for him in the National Archive, but the 2nd East Lancashire Field Ambulance was a Territorial Force unit, so he may have stayed in the TF post 1920 as a part time soldier, meaning his records would be with the Ministry of Defence. Checking out a couple of sample British Army Monthly Lists, in June 1919 he is still as a Quartermaster and Captain in the R.A.M.C. Territorial Force, (column 1744). https://digital.nls.uk/british-military-lists/archive/123188688 Same rank and column in the December 1919 British Army Monthly Lists. https://digital.nls.uk/british-military-lists/archive/109438229 The Wellcomecollection site have his RAMC papers covering the period 1914 to 1955. Howevere his death appears to have been recorded in the Chapel En Le Frith District of Derbyshire in the January to March quarter, (Q1), of 1955 at the age of 68. The Probate Calendar entry makes no reference to any rank, simply showing that James Harvey Bounds of Lynton, The Park, Buxton, died on the 17th February 1955. Hope some of that helps, Peter
