His service record includes medical reports 1920 and '21 from a doctor in Venezuela, working for the Caribbean Petroleum Company. This company had been acquired by Shell in 1913. Furniss was a building contractor prewar. 2. That second service number seems to have been issued 25/10/1918 when he was deemed to have enlisted under a normal engagement, ie 3/9. What was this about? Theoretically when he went to Venezuela he was still in the Reserve. Charlie
Ivor Anderson Posted 31 July , 2022 Author Share Posted 31 July , 2022 Thanks Charlie. His father was a plumbing contractor and he was listed as a 'plumber & painter' in 1911. I suppose oil pipelines needed plumbing engineers. He was home again in time to sail from Southampton to New York, on route to Venezuela in September 1927 (Manifest below - Ancestry)
