My grandfather, a royal engineer, served in north east Italy twords the end of WW1. It is said he served for a while with the PIAVE. Can anyone tell me anything about this formation.

Thanks

John

The Piave was not a unit but an area over which fighting took place in the Italian Campaign.

See this page from the mother site:

It`s actually a river, 137 miles long. It was the main line of Italian resistance after Caporetto. In Oct 1918, the Italians attacked from there and defeated the Austrians at the Battle of Vittorio Veneto. Phil B
