BBC and WW1

Is it me or has the BBC significantly dropped  the number of WW1 documentaries lately? Too much money going to lost lawsuits?

Now the centenary has passed they will be saving up for more programmes relating to other conflicts in future years!

Anita Rani was telling us all about the Falklands the other day. That'll be the next commemoration in 2022.

I wonder if the BBC will have to use both names to stay impartial?

Certainly - met him once, very personable but IMHO lacks something as a presenter...

What a lot of nonsense. How many other channels have been commemorating WW1 of late? Things move on in the media - that is all the media. The BBC, like all other broadcast media, have a large and diverse audience to satisfy and have to cover a vast range of subjects.

Criticism of the BBC content has become something of a sport over the last few years. Try thinking about the range they have to cover.

We in Ireland have had centenaries of the 1913 Lockout, Great War, 1916 Rising, War of Independence, and a Civil War to come.

Each of these centenaries had appropriate exposure in the media at the time, but after the anniversary it is yesterday's news. The media, whichever one you choose, moves on to current issues. WWI coverage is no different.

Many of those have been repeated numerous times, and crop up regularly across various channels, with lots also on such as youtube too.

I don't think there will be much budget spending on "new" WW1 documentaries or films.

You watch Belgium and Dutch TV?

Grensgeval (Dutch)

Reizen Waes: Vlaanderen (Belgium)

Secrets in the Ice

The Live Bait Squadron (Dutch)

Ernst Junger (German)

In the same period the BBC only had Foreign Legions.

For WW2 it is even much worse.

Like I said...
