Ivor Anderson Posted 3 May , 2021 Share Posted 3 May , 2021 His MM Index Card shows that he was a Lance Corporal when he got his award. This is what would be inscribed on his MM. His BWM & VM would have Sgt. on them as they were issued post WW1. Personally, I would not engrave replicas as the 'engraving' would not look authentic. The originals had press-stamped letters. You will not see the edges easily anyway if the medals are displayed in a case. I would invest in a genuine MM set that can be displayed and resold in the event of his actual medals ever come up for sale. e.g. of a pressed L.Cpl inscription:
Jim Strawbridge Posted 3 May , 2021 Share Posted 3 May , 2021 Good advice, Ivor Anderson. Putting a name on replica medals changes nothing. They are still replica medals and have no connection to your great grandfather. I have seen many renamed medals and they always look false. Originals have the information impressed which engraved naming can never mimic. They also have very minimal resale value. Best keep your money until the originals hopefully turn up. Brighty1994 Posted 3 May , 2021 Author Share Posted 3 May , 2021 Yer might just do that what think original Miniatures instead just to put in frame as seen some on ebay thanks for the info
Ivor Anderson Posted 3 May , 2021 Share Posted 3 May , 2021 I hope his original medals turn up one day. Miniatures vary greatly in quality as they were privately purchased after the war. You could frame a sharp colour photo of a genuine set with printed information about him:
