Remembered Today:

Segregation

I have seen reference to men "marching into segregation" in Etaples in 1917.   Does anyone have any further details of what this was for.  I suspect it was for medical reasons.

Hello 'Wiltshire'.

I cannot give you any suggestions, but...

May I suggest that you elaborate more, and provide more of the context for the phrase.

The gurus on here love details, details, details...

Kindest Regards,

Tom.

I am researching  a member of the NZEF and in his papers it states he marched into segregation in 1917 but it does not say why.  It may have been because of health issues in Etaples at the time.

Quite likely. I have seen several references to ANZAC soldiers having to be "isolated" on arrival in Wiltshire after  coming into contact with men with cerebro-spinal fever, mumps etc - or being infected themselves - perhaps on the voyage from the Antipodes.
